( – Seeking political relevance after two unsuccessful presidential campaigns and a controversial tenure in the federal government, Hillary Clinton did not mince words when she dubbed Tucker Carlson a “useful idiot” for Russia.

Clinton’s criticism came hot on the heels of Carlson’s announcement that he would have an exclusive interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

She also dismissed the news during a chat on MSNBC, stating, “He says things that are not true. He parrots Vladimir Putin’s pack of lies about Ukraine, so I don’t see why Putin wouldn’t give him an interview.”

She further added:

“Well, it shows me what I think we’ve all known: he’s what’s called a ‘useful idiot. I mean, if you actually read translations of what is being said on Russian media, they make fun of him. … He’s like a puppy dog. I would not be surprised if he emerges with a contract with a Russian outlet because he is a useful idiot.”

Clinton’s disdain for Carlson was palpable and she speculates that Carlson’s future might lie with Russian state media. “I would not be surprised if he emerges with a contract with a Russian outlet,” she said.

Carlson bid Fox goodbye last year and has openly criticized the U.S. for neglecting domestic needs in American cities and favoring financial support for Ukraine amidst its struggle against Russia’s invasion.

He argues his upcoming Putin interview is a must-watch to fill in the gaps of Americans’ understanding of the conflict. “Two years into a war that’s reshaping the entire world, most Americans are not informed,” Carlson stated and urged people to consider Russia’s perspective on the war without necessarily agreeing with it.

Additionally Clinton bashed Americans who do not support Ukraine in the conflict, saying, “It’s a sign that there are people in this country right now who are like a fifth column for Vladimir Putin … Why are certain Republicans throwing their lot in? Why are other Americans basically believing Putin?”

When pressed by the interviewer she also claimed that some Americans yearn for “leaders that kill and imprison their opponents.”

Clinton also discussed former President Donald Trump and said she believes there are constitutional arguments to potentially bar him from office. Clinton envisions a scenario where the Supreme Court leaves the decision to the states, which she believes would ignite a “political firestorm.”
