(StraightShooterNews.com) – In a stunning political shift, the Muslim mayor of Hamtramck, Michigan, has publicly endorsed Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential election.
This unexpected move signals a growing dissatisfaction with the Democrat Party among Arab Americans and highlights Trump’s expanding appeal to traditionally Democrat voting blocs.
Mayor Amer Ghalib endorsement could potentially swing the key battleground state of Michigan in Trump’s favor.
Ghalib is the first non-Polish mayor of Hamtramck in over a century. He met with Trump in Flint, Michigan, where the former president requested his endorsement.
The Yemeni-born Democrat announced his support for Trump on Facebook, citing Trump’s principles and potential to bring peace to the Middle East.
“We have hope that he will end the war in the Middle East…There’s nothing worse than what’s happening now,” Ghalib stated.
He reflected the sentiments of many Arab Americans unhappy with Joe Biden’s handling of conflicts in the region.
The endorsement is particularly significant as Hamtramck is the only Muslim-majority city in the United States.
Known for its immigrant population from Yemen, Bangladesh and Pakistan, Hamtramck has recently made headlines for its conservative stances on cultural issues, including banning the pride flag on public property.
This shift towards traditional values aligns with Trump’s message of preserving American culture and rejecting radical leftist agendas.
In an interview following the endorsement, Trump praised Ghalib and highlighted the peace achieved during his administration.
“He was a big fan of the Trump administration because he saw no wars outside of defeating ISIS, but I inherited that but there were no wars. There was no October 7, no Russian attack on Ukraine,” Trump said.
The former president emphasized his ability to prevent potential global conflicts, stating, “We have a world that’s going to end up in World War 3, and I’m the only one that’s going to stop that.”
The impact of Ghalib’s endorsement extends beyond Hamtramck. As a leader in the “Uncommitted” movement against Biden and the “Abandon Harris” sentiment, Ghalib’s support for Trump could influence the broader Arab-American voting bloc in Michigan.
This shift has the potential to tip the scales in a state where recent polls show Kamala Harris leading Trump by only a narrow margin.
