Top Republican Quits; Quotes Scripture

(StraightShooterNews.com) – Citing Scripture to explain the motives behind his decision, Republican Iowa Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg has stepped down from his position, effective immediately.

Gregg revealed that his family was his primary focus, remarking, “As Scripture reminds us, for everything there is a season, and there is a time to every purpose under heaven. I feel my time in public service must come to a close.”

“This season of my life needs to be focused on my family,” he said. “My kids are growing up too fast, and statewide elected offices force me to miss more of their lives than I can accept.”

“While difficult, the decision to resign from this role allows me to honor my most important commitment — my family,” he concluded.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds released a statement to confirm Gregg’s resignation, highlighting his significant contributions during his tenure.

“Adam has been a tremendous partner and an important part of my team over the last seven years, and I greatly appreciate his service to Iowans,” Reynolds stated.

She continued to express understanding for his decision: “It comes as no surprise that he would choose to step down to prioritize his personal life. … This most certainly is the right decision for Adam, and I wish him, Cari, and their children only the best.”

Reynolds initially appointed Gregg as acting lieutenant governor in May 2017, after she became governor when her predecessor Terry Branstad resigned to become U.S. Ambassador to China.

Together, Reynolds and Gregg secured victories in the 2018 and 2022 elections.

Reflecting on his time in office, Gregg shared his sentiments with KTIV 4:

“It has been a great honor to serve alongside Governor Reynolds for seven years. I have enormous respect for her and her leadership, and she will always be one of the most important mentors in my life.”

Following Gregg’s resignation, Governor Reynolds will have the authority to appoint someone to serve the remainder of his term, as outlined in Iowa state law.

In the meantime, Iowa Senator Amy Sinclair, as the current president of the state senate, is next in line for the role.
