(StraightShooterNews.com) – Ending a series of more than 20 drawings without a winner, someone won a massive $800 million Mega Millions jackpot at a gas station just outside Houston last night.
The lucky numbers were 1, 2, 16, 24, 66, with a gold Mega ball of 6.
As reported by the state lottery, this winning ticket came from Murphy USA 8848, a gas station located on Highway 90A in Sugar Land, Texas.
The gas station is located across from Constellation Field, home to the Sugar Land Space Cowboys—a minor league team linked to the Houston Astros.
The business, which is about 21 miles southwest of downtown Houston, will receive $1 million for selling the winning ticket.
This marks the 15th time a jackpot-winning Mega Millions ticket has been bought in Texas.
The most recent winning ticket before this was on October 6, 2023, when Blue Yucca Trust won a $361 million prize.
The chances of winning Mega Millions are staggeringly low: 1 in 302,575,350.
The lucky individual has the choice of either an $800 million annuity or a one-time cash option of $404.2 million.
In Texas, anyone who wins over $1 million can stay under the radar thanks to state law.
Meanwhile, four other winners from New York, California, Florida and Washington State each scooped up $1 million by matching the five white balls.
The ticket from New York was purchased at a Gulf Express gas station in New Windsor, not far from West Point.
This latest win is the third major Mega Millions jackpot claimed in 2024, following a $1.13 billion win in March and a $552 million prize in June.
With this jackpot claimed, the next draw, which coincidentally falls on Friday the 13th, will start over at $20 million.
The record for the largest ever Mega Millions win is still held by a ticket worth $1.62 billion bought at a Publix supermarket in Neptune Beach, Florida, in August 2023.
Saltines Holdings LLC. went for the lump-sum payment option, which totaled a whopping $794,248,882.
