(StraightShooterNews.com) – A bombshell report has exposed liberal academics’ shocking attempts to weaponize mass shooting stats to push their anti-gun Agenda.
Specifically, a new study claims that 1 in 15 Americans has witnessed a mass shooting, a suspiciously high figure that gun control advocates are already exploiting to undermine Second Amendment rights.
The controversial study comes from the University of Colorado Boulder, which is spreading alarming statistics about mass shootings that have Americans questioning the timing and methodology.
According to these academic researchers, around 7% of U.S. adults, or roughly one in every 15 Americans, have supposedly been present during a mass shooting event.
These statistics, which conveniently serve the anti-gun lobby’s narrative, also claim that over 2% of adults have sustained injuries during such events.
These figures seem designed to shock Americans into accepting more gun control measures.
Published in JAMA Network Open, the study defines mass shootings as incidents where four or more people are shot in a public space.
Second Amendment advocates have criticized this definition for being overly broad.
They have also blasted the findings for potentially including gang violence and other criminal activity, which differs substantially from the random mass casualty events typically discussed in media coverage.
Notably, the research team surveyed 10,000 adults about their “experiences” with mass shootings.
This has raised questions about self-reporting bias and subjective interpretations of what constitutes being “present” at such an event.
Study lead author David Pyrooz made claims that perfectly align with the left’s attempts to create a culture of fear around firearms.
“This study confirms that mass shootings are not isolated tragedies, but rather a reality that reaches a substantial portion of the population, with profound physical and psychological consequences,” said Pyrooz.
“Our findings lend credence to the idea of a ‘mass shooting generation.’ People who grew up in the aftermath of Columbine have these unique experiences that are really distinguishable from the older population,” he added.
What the researchers fail to acknowledge is how Democrat-run cities with strict gun control laws continue to experience the highest rates of gun violence.
In contrast, lawful gun owners who exercise their constitutional rights are continually vilified.
The research further claims that younger generations, particularly Generation Z, are disproportionately affected by mass shootings.
This conveniently feeds into the left’s strategy of using young Americans as emotional pawns in their anti-gun crusade.
By creating the concept of a “mass shooting generation,” liberal academics are attempting to normalize the idea that restricting constitutional rights is necessary for public safety.
Meanwhile, they consistently ignore how these tragic events often occur in “gun-free zones” where law-abiding citizens are left defenseless against criminals who ignore such restrictions.
The timing of this study’s release raises significant questions about its political motivations.
After losing the 2024 election, Democrats are once again putting gun control at the forefront of their platform despite Americans consistently ranking other issues like inflation, border security, and crime as more pressing concerns.
Conservative policy experts point out that the study’s emphasis on mental health impacts could actually support arguments for better mental health resources rather than gun restrictions.
Three-quarters of those present but uninjured reportedly experienced psychological distress, highlighting America’s mental health crisis.
This latest study represents yet another attempt by academia to try to justify limiting Americans’ fundamental right to self-defense.
