(StraightShooterNews.com) – A student-athlete at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania has been expelled for committing
a shocking and violent racial hate crime: he is accused of engraving a racial slur onto a teammate’s chest with a box cutter.
The incident has sparked significant outrage and prompted the college to launch an intense investigation.
The vile act is being treated strictly as a hate crime by both the victim’s family and the college administration.
The victim, who was the only person of color present at the gathering, was initially removed from swimming activities, adding insult to injury.
College officials became aware of the situation after it was reported by upperclassmen.
“The reprehensible act was committed by a fellow student-athlete, someone he considered his friend, someone whom he trusted. This student used a box cutter to etch the N-word across his chest,” the victim’s family stated.
While the college investigates, it remains unclear whether the student responsible for the slur left voluntarily or was expelled.
However, what is certain is that the student is no longer associated with Gettysburg College.
College President Bob Iuliano has condemned this act and restated that hateful behaviors have absolutely no place at Gettysburg College.
President Iuliano expressed deep distress about the incident and its broader implications on the college’s effort to encourage an inclusive environment.
In a campus-wide email addressing the incident, Iuliano reinforced the college’s commitment to battling such demeaning actions:
“No matter the relationship, and no matter the motivation, there is no place on this campus for words or actions that demean, degrade, or marginalize based on one’s identity and history,” he wrote.
Through the ongoing investigation, the college and the victim’s family are collaborating to ensure transparency and justice.
Complaints have not only been filed with internal college authorities but also with the NAACP and the Pennsylvania Commission on Human Relations.
