(StraightShooterNews.com) – Pet food companies are putting furry friends at risk once again as raw pet food manufacturer Blue Ridge Beef has recalled nearly five tons of puppy food due to potential Salmonella contamination.
See the tweet below.
Blue Ridge Beef is recalling 9,600 pounds of its Puppy Mix product after reports of puppy illness surfaced.
The affected products were distributed in August across seven states: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
The recall specifically targets two-pound logs of raw pet food with UPC 854298001696 and lot numbers 08/06/N25 and 08/16/N25.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed the presence of Salmonella in the recalled product after a customer reported their litter of puppies falling ill.
The manufacturer, which has been producing raw pet food for over 40 years, claimed to prioritize “quality, service, and safety.”
However, this recall raises serious questions about the company’s ability to deliver on that promise.
The FDA has issued a stern warning to pet owners, advising them not to feed, sell, or donate the recalled Puppy Mix. Instead, they should return or destroy the product immediately.
Meanwhile, Salmonella can affect both animals and humans, with symptoms in pets including lethargy, diarrhea, fever, vomiting, and lack of appetite.
Humans handling contaminated products may experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cramps, and fever.
The FDA recommended thorough hand washing and sanitizing of pet food bowls and storage containers to minimize the risk of infection.
For those concerned about their pets’ health or potential exposure to the recalled product, it is crucial to contact the veterinarian immediately.
Blue Ridge Beef has provided contact information for further inquiries, but pet owners should remain vigilant and prioritize their pets’ well-being above all else.
