(StraightShooterNews.com) – In an unsettling blow to raw milk enthusiasts and small-scale farmers, Raw Farm in Fresno, California has expanded its recall of raw milk products due to the detection of the bird flu virus.

This move underscores the potential hazards lurking in raw milk production as well as the ongoing debate regarding food safety regulations.
The recall includes all whole milk and cream products produced between November 9 and November 27.
These products, potentially contaminated with the bird flu virus, were quarantined after the California Department of Food and Agriculture took decisive action to halt distribution.
Such robust measures ensure that the health of both livestock and consumers is prioritized.
The farm remains quarantined, with a suspension on all raw milk, cream, kefir, butter, and cheese products produced on or after November 27.
The swift response was necessary, given the grave risks posed to animals and those who consume raw milk.
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) emphasized that “California has secured a broad, voluntary recall of all Raw Farm, LLC raw milk and cream products due to possible bird flu contamination.”
Armed with this response, state officials are advising the public to refrain from consuming all raw milk or cream products from Raw Farm.
Despite no human cases reported from consuming affected products, the detection serves as a stark warning.
This recall follows initial warnings after bird flu detection in retail milk on November 21.
Raw Farm’s owner, Mark McAfee, claims this situation is politically motivated, asserting, “There are no illnesses associated with H5N1 in our products. But rather this is a political issue.”
This stance reflects a broader argument against perceived overreach in regulating raw milk, which supporters assert is safe when responsibly produced.
“There are no illnesses associated with H5N1 in our products. But rather this is a political issue” farm officials told The Durango Herald.
Pet owners are also advised not to feed Raw Farm products to animals, as cats have died from brain damage linked to the contaminated milk.
With birds flu infections affecting 57 people in the U.S., of which 31 cases have occurred in California, the heightened caution is justified.
With Type A H5N1 bird flu virus spreading rapidly, vigilance in consumption and production processes remains key.
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., a noted customer of Raw Farm, criticized the alleged “aggressive suppression” of raw milk products.
His statement highlights the ongoing discussion surrounding the balance between safety regulations and perceived governmental interference.
Meanwhile, the recall affects products with lot codes 20241109 through 20241127, and public health communications stress the preventive importance of avoiding these products.
Health officials consistently advise against consuming raw milk due to its potential to harbor harmful germs.
Between 1998 and 2018, raw milk was linked to 202 outbreaks, causing numerous illnesses and hospitalizations.
Conversely, pasteurized milk remains safe to drink, with pasteurization shown to inactivate bird flu viruses and other pathogens, according to health authorities.
