(StraightShooterNews.com) – In a warning shot to Western countries that are supporting Ukraine in the ongoing conflict, Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced plans to tweak Moscow’s guidelines on when to use nuclear weapons.
During a meeting on nuclear strategy, Putin stated that the country is fine-tuning the rules about nuclear weapon use.
These updates will broaden the conditions under which Russia could consider using nuclear force, especially regarding threats from certain states and military groups.
Putin declared that if a nuclear-armed nation supported a non-nuclear state against Russia, it would be seen as a combined attack against Russia.
This declaration comes as some of Russia’s main critics, like the U.S. and the U.K., consider allowing Ukraine to use advanced long-range weapons against Russian military sites.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky is pushing for support in the U.S. as America’s presidential elections approach.
Zelensky is set to meet with Joe Biden to discuss Ukraine’s request for using long-range missiles further.
Just before his trip, Zelensky mentioned that the U.S. or the U.K. has not cleared Ukraine to deploy these long-range weapons on Russian soil.
He detailed, “We have long-range weapons. But not in the amount we need, let’s say. Nevertheless, we have this package — [of long-range missiles] Storm Shadow, ATACMS, SCALP.”
Putin also hinted at a nuclear response from Russia if it sees any significant military threat from these advanced weapons.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasized this point, saying the policy changes are a clear signal to discourage any attacks on Russia.
He explained these adjustments as a warning to prevent others from attacking Russia, whether with nuclear weapons or otherwise.
As discussions about the use of Western missiles by Ukraine continue, Russian officials have increasingly said they are ready to use nuclear weapons if they see their country’s survival at stake.
The policy also covers responses to attacks on critical state or military sites or the detection of missile launches targeting Russia or its allies.
Despite claiming a defensive stance in its nuclear strategy, Russia has consistently stated it would not shy away from using nuclear weapons if its sovereignty or territorial integrity is under threat.
