(StraightShooterNews.com) – The surge in homelessness across America under the Harris-Biden administration has skyrocketed to disturbing heights in 2023, with over 653,000 individuals forced to live on the streets or in temporary shelters.

Watch the video below.

Despite numerous policy initiatives from the current administration, this represents a 12% increase from last year, exposing the ongoing failures in government intervention and economic planning.

The most recent data indicates that homelessness spans nationwide, with California and New York having the largest populations.

More than half of these individuals reside in the 50 largest cities, demonstrating a clear failure in urban management and planning.

Alarmingly, New York City and Los Angeles alone account for a quarter of the total homeless population.

Meanwhile, multiple factors are at play in this devastating increase. With COVID-era assistance ending and immigration surges, more people find themselves unable to keep up with soaring housing costs.

Across 41 states, from New Hampshire to New Mexico, homelessness continues to rise, particularly affecting ethnic minorities.

The Hispanic and Latino populations have seen the most significant increases, while the Asian community experienced a shocking 64% rise in homelessness.

The ranks of the homeless are growing with more first-time experiences, escalating economic pressures, and a severe lack of affordable housing. Despite permanent housing supply gains, the demand far exceeds what is available.

Major urban centers have not expanded housing options quickly enough, leaving countless individuals in limbo, with children and veterans being some of the most affected groups.

Reports show 111,620 children without homes, 10,548 of which live without any form of shelter at all.

In addition, the number of homeless veterans increased by approximately 7% this year, highlighting a failure of the current agenda to honor and provide for those who served.

The homeless’ dilemma requires systematic approaches rather than band-aid solutions. Structural factors such as housing shortages and economic disparities draw attention to flaws that need immediate addressing.

Despite a hard push for the “Housing First” approach, success requires more than just providing homes; it vastly depends on sustainable, accountable strategies.

Furthermore, systematic solutions are critical at this juncture yet remain absent as the housing supply cannot sufficiently meet demand.

As the road to 2024 looms, it is imperative that we reassess how our governing bodies address homelessness and uphold foundational values of caring for our most vulnerable while ensuring taxpayer dollars are not wasted on ineffective strategies.
