(StraightShooterNews.com) – As Denver-area shoppers brace for empty shelves and long lines, greedy union bosses have forced over 10,000 workers to go on strike just before Super Bowl weekend and Valentine’s Day plans across Colorado.
The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 has orchestrated a two-week strike at 77 King Soopers stores across the Denver metro area in a brazen display of union overreach.
This calculated move, timed to coincide with the Super Bowl and Valentine’s Day, is a clear attempt to strong-arm the company into submission, regardless of the cost to hardworking Americans.
The union’s claim of “unfair labor practices” rings hollow when examining the facts. King Soopers has proposed a generous $180 million investment in wages, including a $4.50 wage increase over four years.
This offer is in addition to the already competitive average hourly rate of $22.68, plus healthcare and retirement benefits.
Yet, no amount of generosity is enough for these insatiable union bosses.

King Soopers President Joe Kelley expressed disappointment with the union’s decision to strike, saying:
“The union’s call for a strike is not about wages, healthcare, or pensions. It is based on allegations we believe lack merit and have yet to be validated by the National Labor Review Board or any court.”
King Soopers remains committed to serving its customers despite the union’s disruptive tactics. The company has hired 1,500 temporary workers and plans to keep stores open with adjusted hours.
The timing of this strike is particularly egregious, as noted by UFCW Local 7 President Kim Cordova: “These days were intentional because the only thing they care about is profit, and we know how much these days mean to King Soopers.”
This cynical admission reveals the union’s true colors—it is willing to hold customers hostage, and sabotage cherished American traditions like the Super Bowl to get its way.
As this labor dispute unfolds, the real victims are clearly the hardworking customers and employees caught in the crossfire of union greed.
King Soopers has demonstrated its commitment to fair wages and benefits, while the union seems more interested in flexing its political muscle than in genuine negotiation.
