(StraightShooterNews.com) – With only nine weeks to go until the 2024 election, Joe Biden’s administration has leveled new accusations of election interference against Russia.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) recently stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin had masterminded a campaign through several Russian entities to manipulate Americans using influencers and social media under a campaign named “Doppelganger.”
According to a DOJ press release, two employees from Russian-controlled media outlet RT face charges for “conspiring to commit money laundering and to violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act.”
The DOJ states that certain internet domains were set up to influence U.S. voters and spread Russian propaganda while reducing global support for Ukraine and creating discord.
Despite these efforts, the impact on American political dialogue seems minimal.
The DOJ noted that one X account involved in the operations, named “CNN California,” had only 7 followers.
Another aspect of the campaign was the creation of a YouTube channel that pulled in 16 million views over nearly 2,000 videos in ten months, averaging about 8,000 views per video.
The budget for this entire operation was roughly $10 million, as per the DOJ.
This development surfaces just as the election nears and shortly after Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg made a shocking revelation.
Zuckerberg said he regretted his role in censoring certain social media content during the 2020 election and the COVID-19 pandemic at the request of the Biden-Harris administration.
The leak of this information to CNN before the official indictment release has drawn comparisons to the 2016 election coverage when GOP candidate Donald Trump was accused of colluding with Russia.
This incident marks yet another election cycle where Democrats have spotlighted the issue of foreign interference.
After 2016, Democrats advocated for Big Tech to limit access to certain information, including stories about COVID-19 and Hunter Biden’s laptop, claiming Russian disinformation.
Elon Musk later revealed interactions that show that Twitter had suppressed a New York Post article about the laptop via a series known as the “Twitter files.”
The narrative of “Russian interference” in the 2016 election also continued as many Democrats disputed Trump’s legitimate victory.
FBI Director Christopher Wray commented on the recent findings, saying, “Today’s announcement exposes the scope of the Russian government’s influence operations and their reliance on cutting-edge AI to sow disinformation.”
