(StraightShooterNews.com) – After refusing to engage with the media for an off-the-cuff discussion, Kamala Harris is set to be interviewed for the first time as the Democrat presidential nominee this Thursday on CNN.
The interview is a crucial moment for Harris to discuss her track record and plans after avoiding such public exchanges for several weeks.
However, the interview will not feature Harris alone. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will join her, making it a joint session.
CNN anchor Dana Bash will conduct the interview in Georgia at 9 p.m. ET while Harris and Walz are there on a bus tour to rally support in the crucial swing state.
Since Joe Biden ended his campaign for a second term on July 21 and anointed Harris as his successor, she has not given any interviews.
This has sparked significant anticipation from both the media and Republican critics.
Harris’ absence from interviews has given her a honeymoon period of favorable media coverage, helping her gain in polls against Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Dana Bash was one of the moderators at a CNN debate on June 27 in Atlanta, which led to a shift in support towards Harris within the Democrat Party after Biden’s dismal performance.
Trump has commended Bash and her co-moderator Jake Tapper for their fairness during the debate, even as he has criticized Harris for not being able to manage media interactions effectively.
Harris promised on August 8 that she would participate in an interview within the following 24 days, and the upcoming CNN interview meets this commitment just in time.
The two major party candidates are also scheduled for their first—and possibly only—presidential debate on September 10, hosted by ABC News.
Behind the scenes, Harris has been trying to build a rapport with the press through informal Q&A sessions on Air Force Two.
However, none of her responses during these sessions have been allowed on the record, keeping any potentially awkward moments confined to a small group.
Harris has faced challenges in the past with addressing criticism effectively.
For instance, during a June 2021 interview with Lester Holt of NBC Nightly News, she responded to a question about not visiting the US-Mexico border by comparing it to not visiting Europe.
