(StraightShooterNews.com) – In a bombshell revelation, the FBI has now disclosed that it knew about Colt Gray, the teenager who yesterday shot and killed four people at a Georgia high school.
The agency became aware of Gray when he was linked to online threats of a school shooting, according to the FBI’s Atlanta office.
Back in May 2023, the FBI was tipped off about threats involving pictures of guns targeting an unnamed school.
Local authorities, including the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, pinpointed then-13-year-old Gray as a potential suspect and interviewed him and his dad.
His father assured investigators that although there were hunting guns at home, Gray could not access them without supervision. Gray himself denied being involved in the threats.
Despite no concrete evidence to take further action at the time, the FBI stated that local schools were put on alert to keep an eye on Gray.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosey mentioned that they are examining any links between the threats last year and the recent shooting at Apalachee High School.
Hosey revealed this during a press briefing and said that they are also exploring a potential connection between Gray’s family and local children’s services.
Gray reportedly used an AR-style rifle to carry out the shooting, killing 14-year-old students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angelo, and math teachers Richard Aspinwall and Christina Irimie.
Additionally, nine others were injured and taken to hospitals, including special education math teacher David Phenix.
Gray surrendered to school resource officers shortly after the incident and was arrested.
The investigation into his motive is ongoing, with interviews being conducted with his family and acquaintances.
“I don’t know why it happened. We may never know,” said Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith. Gray will face adult charges for murder.
In response to the shooting, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp expressed profound sorrow, describing the incident as a nightmare and acknowledging the community’s pain.
“These are our neighbors. These are our friends. And this community is hurting today,” Kemp stated.
“And I would just ask all Georgians and all Americans to continue to keep these families, these educators and these students in your thoughts and prayers,” he added.
