(StraightShooterNews.com) – After a rushed vetting process, Harris has picked Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her vice-presidential candidate for the upcoming November election against GOP nominee Donald Trump.
According to insiders, 60-year-old Walz was not initially seen as a likely choice, as he was overshadowed by other prominent figures like Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly in early discussions.
However, Walz recently rose to the top of the list after a cable news interview where he sharply criticized certain Republicans as “weird.”
His remarks then resonated widely and were echoed by other Democrats nationally.
Political insiders consider that Walz’s selection is a strategic move by Harris.
He has strong liberal credentials and relative popularity among progressives, making him a less controversial choice compared to others.
For example, Shapiro faced backlash for mishandling pro-Palestinian demonstrations during the Israel-Hamas conflict, and both Shapiro and Kelly have faced sharp criticism from labor leaders.
Walz also brings geographic appeal. He comes from Minnesota, a state that has been reliably Democratic in presidential elections but is now being targeted by Trump and his vice-presidential choice, JD Vance.
Trump’s campaign has been active in Minnesota, which Biden won by seven percentage points in 2020.
Trump seeks to turn the tide in the state, given that it has not supported a Republican presidential candidate in over half a century.
