The White House’s East Room hosted this solemn event, during which seven American heroes were finally recognized.

Among them was Richard Cavazos, the first Hispanic four-star general posthumously awarded for his exceptional courage in Korea.

Cavazos’ actions, which included evacuating wounded soldiers under enemy fire, embody the spirit of sacrifice that has long defined the armed forces.

Kenneth J. David, the sole surviving recipient at the ceremony, stood as a living testament to the bravery displayed during the Vietnam War.

The stories of these heroes powerfully rebuke those who seek to diminish the greatness of America’s military history.

From Corporal Fred B. McGee, whose daughter campaigned for decades to see her father’s bravery recognized, to Private First Class (PFC) Charles Johnson, whose lifesaving actions in Korea earned him a statue at his high school, each recipient’s tale is a chapter in the grand narrative of American exceptionalism.

“These are genuine, to their core, heroes. Heroes of different ranks, different positions, and even different generations,” Biden remarked.

“But heroes who all went above and beyond the call of duty. Heroes who all deserve our nation’s highest and oldest military recognition, the Medal of Honor,” he continued.

The ceremony also honored other remarkable individuals, such as Private Bruno R. Orig, who administered first aid and fired at the enemy during a withdrawal in Korea, and Captain Hugh R. Nelson Jr., who sacrificed his life to save others during a helicopter mission in Vietnam.

“Gen. Cavazos was known around the Army as a battle proven warrior. Let his name and all that it represents inspire us all every single day to live up to his legacy,” Lieutenant General Sean Bernabe stated.

Biden concluded the ceremony by emphasizing the nation’s responsibility to remember and honor these heroes, as they embody the virtues and dedication that the United States was built upon.
