In an alarming development, nearly half a million pounds of breakfast sandwiches are being recalled due to an undeclared allergen that could trigger life-threatening reactions.
Specifically, these products, which were distributed to Army and Air Force locations nationwide, contain hidden sesame that is not listed on the label.
Hearthside Food Solutions is recalling approximately 489,887 pounds of breakfast sandwiches after discovering that the French toast component contains sesame flour not declared on the product labels.
The affected products include the 8.35-ounce Lettieri’s Food To Go Sausage, Egg & Cheese French Toast Breakfast Sandwich and the 7.3-ounce Lettieri’s Food To Go Bacon, Egg & Cheese French Toast Breakfast Sandwich.
These items were produced over a two-year period between April 1, 2023, and March 25, 2025, and have a 12-month shelf life, meaning many could still be in freezers across America.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued the recall after discovering the unlisted allergen.
Sesame allergies can cause severe, potentially life-threatening reactions in sensitive individuals.
The sandwiches were primarily distributed to Army & Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES) locations across the country, putting military members and their families at risk.
The products bear the establishment number “EST. V4907” inside the USDA mark of inspection, making them identifiable to consumers who may have purchased them.
This recall highlights ongoing issues with food labeling and allergen identification that continue to put Americans at risk.
While no adverse reactions have been reported so far, the USDA has issued an urgent warning due to the potential severity of sesame allergies.
This recall involves lot codes beginning with 23, 24, and 25, up to 2508451, indicating a widespread distribution over a significant period.
The USDA is concerned that many affected products may still be in consumers’ or in AAFES’ freezers or refrigerators.
The fact that these mislabeled products were mainly distributed to military installations raises questions about the quality of food safety oversight for service members.
The nearly 500,000 pounds of recalled breakfast sandwiches represent a significant portion of quick meal options available to military personnel.
The USDA is advising anyone who has purchased these breakfast sandwiches not to eat them.
Concerned individuals should either discard the products or return them to the place of purchase.
While the government agency has stated there are no confirmed reports of adverse reactions, it recommends that anyone concerned about an illness or reaction contact their healthcare provider immediately.
Hearthside Food Solutions has been reached out for additional comments regarding the recall, but responses were not immediately available.
This lack of transparency adds to consumer frustration as questions remain about how such a significant labeling error could occur over such an extended period.
The company’s Salt Lake City-based operations will likely face additional scrutiny from regulators as the investigation continues.
