(StraightShooterNews.com) – After five years of a long hiatus, 40-year-old American skiing legend Lindsey Vonn is making a triumphant return to competitive skiing to reclaim her place on the U.S. Ski Team.

Vonn retired in 2019 due to chronic knee pain from multiple injuries and surgeries, including torn ACLs, broken bones, and a fractured ankle. Vonn has overcome adversity to return to the slopes.

The four-time World Cup champion underwent knee replacement surgery just seven months ago, a procedure that has allowed her to ski pain-free for the first time in years.

Vonn’s illustrious career includes 82 World Cup victories, three Olympic medals (including a gold in 2010), and an impressive 137 World Cup podium finishes.

Her achievements have solidified her status as one of the greatest skiers in American history, and her return to competition only adds to her legendary status.

The champion said during an interview, “Obviously, I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t hope to be racing. I have aspirations. I love to go fast. How fast can I go? I don’t know. Getting back to skiing without pain has been an incredible journey.”

While some may question the wisdom of returning to such a physically demanding sport at 40, Vonn’s determination and passion for skiing are undeniable.

She has expressed excitement about sharing her knowledge with the team and potentially competing in World Cup races.

U.S. Ski & Snowboard President Sophie Goldschmidt welcomed Vonn’s return, stating, “Lindsey has made an indelible mark on alpine skiing and our organization throughout her career. We’re delighted to welcome her back.”

In addition, Vonn’s first major competition since her return will be the World Cup circuit this winter.

The champion skier has even hinted at the possibility of competing in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.

Her consideration of Olympic competition at 40 years old is a testament to her unwavering belief in the American dream.
