10,000 Jobs To Be Cut at THIS Agency!

Triangular warning sign with exclamation mark.

(StraightShooterNews.com) – One of the striking governance plans of the Trump administration, President Donald Trump aims to cut a staggering 65% of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) workforce—or about 10,000 jobs.

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin’s plan, endorsed by Elon Musk’s new Department of Governmental Efficiency, has the potential to eliminate thousands of jobs.

This plan seeks to address what Trump considers a bloated government bureaucracy, and could mark a significant shift in America’s regulatory framework.

On February 26, 2025, President Trump unveiled the plan to cut around 65% of staff at the EPA during a Cabinet meeting.

If implemented, the administration’s proposal would affect more than 10,000 jobs within the agency, which currently employs over 17,000 people.

This drastic downsizing aligns with Trump’s broader strategy of reducing government size and streamlining operations.

Lee Zeldin, the EPA Administrator, supports this new agenda, aiming to focus the agency’s efforts on ensuring clean water and air while reducing other environmental regulations.

While some may criticize the potential impact on environmental protections, Zeldin and Trump argue that these cuts are necessary to boost economic growth by reducing burdensome regulations.

The Trump administration has previously faced criticism for its position on climate change, notably withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris Agreement.

Trump has labeled climate change a “scam” and declared a “national energy emergency” to prioritize domestic oil drilling.

His administration continues to deviate sharply from global trends emphasizing renewable energy.

“I spoke with Lee Zeldin, and he thinks he’s going to be cutting 65 or so percent of the people from environmental,” Trump said, emphasizing his confidence in Zeldin’s ability to implement these changes.

The administration’s focus remains on shedding what it considers “wasteful spending” within federal agencies.

The newly established Department of Governmental Efficiency, led by Elon Musk, strengthens Trump’s drive to shrink government operations.

Musk’s mandate includes aggressive spending cuts to prevent potential U.S. bankruptcy, reportedly requiring federal workers to regularly report their productivity to ensure compliance.

As the Trump administration executes its broader restructuring, the Office of Management and Budget and the Office of Personnel Management have instructed agencies to prepare for significant workforce reductions.

The targeted changes extend to probationary employees and require a realignment of agency priorities, reports The Washington Examiner.

“President Trump and EPA Administrator Zeldin are in lock step in creating a more efficient and effective federal government,” said an EPA spokesperson, pointing to the collaboration between the administration and agency leaders.

It’s essential to note the broader implications of such sweeping changes. The Sierra Club has criticized the cuts, suggesting adverse effects on public health and climate change mitigation efforts.
